Position Description

CPRD seeks to hire a Director of Advocacy and Engagement to lead the organization’s arts-inwellbeing pillar of work. CPRD emerged out of the Freedom and Black Arts Movements – two distinctive and deeply interwoven manifestations of the African American struggle for justice and self-determination. Working along this continuum, the organization is building upon its history of civic engagement, wellness and wellbeing with a sharper focus on job training, mental and physical fitness programs, and advocacy for policymaking. The Director of Advocacy and Engagement is particularly responsible for leading the strategic development and management of the newly established Arts Alliance for Health Equity, an initiative launched in partnership between CPRD and Eugene S. Farley, Jr. Health Policy Center.

Celebrating its 50 th anniversary in 2020-2021, CPRD is a multifaceted cultural arts institution comprised of five pillars, the CPRD Ensemble, Academy, Theatre, Arts-in-Education and Arts-inWellbeing programs. With a strong focus on supporting the growth of the Arts Alliance for Health Equity, the Advocacy and Engagement Director will also work across CPRD pillars in close coordination with senior leadership to expand workforce development initiatives as well as deepen existing physical and mental fitness programs.

Primary Wellbeing Pillar Responsibilities:

– Curate physical and mental health programs across CPRD pillars

– Support and coordinate workforce development initiatives in partnership with CPRD Theatre and Academy staff

– Develop and facilitate one-on-one and group training for participants on leadership skills, key community issues, and civic engagement

– Develop talking points and messaging for advocacy issues to reach specific audiences

– Actively participate in CPRD’s executive committee, championing the organization’s strategic priorities, strategic goals, and workplace culture

Arts Alliance for Health Equity Responsibilities:

– Manage day to day operations of Arts Alliance for Health Equity

– Plan and set agendas for the meetings

– Lead efforts to build a multi-sector alliance of arts stakeholders committed to health equity   – Represent Arts Alliance in meetings, webinars, and conferences to build the capacity of the Alliance network

– Facilitate the policy discussions and provide baseline information from policy review to inform or instigate the conversation

In partnership with the Farley Health Policy Center and other Alliance organizations:

– Support research to understand root causes on issues voiced by the community

– Coordinate and arrange materials, including issue briefs and reports

– Develop policy analysis to prioritize art-informed health equity policy solutions

Project Management and Evaluation Responsibilities

– Coordinate with senior staff to monitor budget and deliverables, and compile quantitative and qualitative reports

– Establish objectives, timelines, benchmarks of progress and track and measure output and outcomes


– Experience with diverse and multilingual communities, advocacy for individuals and families living on low-income

– Technologically knowledgeable, skilled with spreadsheets, presentations

– Strong planning, communications, interpersonal skills

– Some statewide travel as well as night and weekend work

– Experience in coalition building and community mobilization

-Work effectively in an environment with diverse cultures, multiple perspectives

-Must be able to work and set priorities independently to effectively balance competing deadlines

Class: Full Time, Salaried, Exempt

Salary Range: $40,500-$45,500

CPRD offers a comprehensive employee benefits program:
